Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) : the course
The Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) course is a comprehensive, evidence-based 1-day virtual (via Zoom) training program designed to teach participants how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental health challenges and crises.
Step 1: Identify
The first step in supporting your team is by learning how to identify mental health problems as they begin to present themselves. We will teach you how to recognize a variety of mental health issues and the warning signs to look out for.
Step 2: Understand
To effectively support your employees, it's essential to understand the challenges they face. Our training program equips you with the tools to respond swiftly, compassionately, and confidently, empowering you to provide the right support when it's needed most.
Step 3: Respond
We equip you with the skills to start meaningful conversations, connect your team with valuable resources, and ensure they receive the support they need. Additionally, you'll gain a comprehensive understanding of the mental health resources offered within your organization, as well as programs available in the wider community.
Similar to traditional first aid, MHFA provides the skills needed to offer immediate help until professional support is available. Participants will learn how to recognize early signs of common mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression, substance use, and more. The course covers how to provide initial support using the ALGEE action plan: Assess for risk of harm, Listen non-judgmentally, Give reassurance, Encourage professional help, and Encourage self-help strategies.
